Do you ever get to that point where you are juggling 20 things and then you decide “Hey, I should add something even larger in to the mix!” That seems to be me…on a regular basis. So, on top of searching for a French property to run as a bed & breakfast (read about it here), researching adoption (read about it here) and writing a book about my life working in HIV Prevention (read about it here), I have officially decided that I want to attend Law School. This idea was planted in my head when I was first arrested (read about it here), and has been growing ever since.
Over the years I have been witness to many injustices. I don’t like the feeling of being helpless while others are struggling for basic rights. I want to get my Juris Doctor so that I can help those in greater need. I want to stand up and fight for the little person who feels like they have no one in their corner. I am completely serious when I say that I want to change this world for the better. I believe that with a law degree I can use that power and influence to make amazing changes in this world.
Next steps that I need to accomplish to become a successful lawyer are:
1. Law School Admission Test (LSAT)
2. Choose which Law Schools to apply
Current Options: NYU Law, Georgetown U, Columbia U, Yale Law, & Harvard Law (just as a safety)
3. Apply to a lot of scholarships, a lot!
4. Apply to Law Schools
This includes writing heart wrenching, kick-ass essays
5. Find a part-time job and/or internship at a legal practice
6. Study for the BAR at least one year in advance to taking it.
7. Graduate top of my class with honors and multiple job offers
8. Become the worlds greatest Lawyer
9. Become President and then Emperor of the world!
Although this task is going to take years of hard work, sleepless nights and my hair turning white, I am incredibly excited at the prospect. Weighing the pros and cons, I understand what an undertaking this will be, but I do not want to feel powerless any longer while having to watch so much suffering.
Watch out world, Kevin Nicholas Gavit is coming!
