World Diabetes Day

This Thursday, and every year on November 14 is World Diabetes Day. Launched in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in a response to the rapid rise of Diabetes globally. Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented, but because of Americans making portion sizes much larger than necessary, adding sugar and salt in excessive amounts to all foods and overall embracing and encouraging a lazy attitude to all aspects of life, this problem has grown.

Type 1 Diabetes can not be prevented yet, and requires insulin to stay alive. To learn more about Insulin and the amazing Banting & Best, read here. There have been some amazing advancements in Type 1 Diabetes treatment over the last few years. Awesome things like AFREZZA Inhalable Insulin and Continued Glucose Monitoring such as Dexcom G6…we are getting closer to a cure, but we still have a way to go.

So this Thursday, November 14th why not give the Type 1 Diabetic in your life some loving. There are a number of fantastic organizations and charities that rely on donors to keep them operational. One of my favorites is the JDRF.

Diamonds, furs, real estate and vacation packages are appreciated too. A diabetics gotta eat.
